General Meetings

The LGA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) are our key decision-making and policy setting forums. These important events help shape the future of local government in South Australia.

Each year, the OGM is held in April or May, and the AGM in October or November. At the meetings, member councils vote on each item of business. Councils have votes with a value that reflects the population of that council.

Propose an item of business

Submit your item of business for the 2026 AGM by 5 pm, Monday 24 August. Submissions received after this date will be considered at the next General Meeting.

Proposing an item of business

The AGM and OGM consider items of strategic importance to local government and the LGA, as recommended by SAROC, GAROC or the Board of Directors.

How to propose an item of business

Before proposing an item of business, read the considering proposed items of business guidelines (PDF 152.0 KB).

We encourage you to discuss proposed items of business with LGA staff before you make a submission.

To propose an item of business:

  1. complete the proposed item of business form (DOCX 52.4 KB)
  2. email the form to lgasa@lga.sa.gov.au.

In your proposal, include sufficient supporting information so informed decisions and recommendations can be made.

Closing date for items of business

Submit items of business for the 2026 AGM by 5 pm, Monday 24 August.

Submissions received after this date will be considered at the next General Meeting.

Voting delegates

Each member council can appoint a voting delegate. This delegate votes on items of business on behalf of their council.

The voting delegate must be a current Council Member and the appointment must be council-endorsed.

Councils must provide notice in writing of the person appointed as its delegate or if the appointment changes (including if no longer a Council Member).

How to appoint a voting delegate

Councils may appoint a new delegate at any time.

To appoint a new delegate:

  1. complete the appointment of council voting delegate form (DOCX 51.2 KB)
  2. email the form to lgasa@lga.sa.gov.au.
How to appoint a substitute voting delegate

If your voting delegate can't attend an AGM or OGM, you can appoint a substitute voting delegate. This delegate can only vote at that one specific meeting.

To appoint a substitute delegate:

  1. complete the appointment of a substitute council voting delegate form (DOCX 51.5 KB)
  2. email the form to lgasa@lga.sa.gov.au.
