To fulfil its statutory obligation to report to Parliament, the Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA) is undertaking an evaluation of the 2018 local government elections and has invited the LGA to provide a submission. ECSA’s evaluation will assess all areas of the 2018 local government elections from the initial planning stages through to closure of the election. ECSA’s report to Parliament will include recommendations for legislative change.
ECSA’s review of the 2018 local government elections is a separate process to the wider local government reform program announced by the State Government. Providing a submission to ECSA is an additional way for the sector to provide feedback on the 2018 local government elections. Members can choose to provide feedback in response to this circular and/or through a response to the LGA’s local government reform discussion paper (see LGA Circular 13.3), noting the LGA's deadlines for feedback are the same; the LGA will use feedback from both to inform its submission to ECSA and its response to the State Government on local government reform.
Chief Executive Officers and client liaison officers may have already provided feedback directly to ECSA via recent ECSA post-election surveys. Similarly, the LGA has already received some feedback through its own post-election surveys of council officers and the broader community.
Feedback to inform the LGA’s submission is requested by 5pm 26 April 2019. Please provide feedback to Alicia Stewart by emailing email@example.com.
